He Made Me Cringe

Today gym guy (SY) and I met up and went to church service together. Today was just weird all around. It felt like something was off kilter at the start of the evening. First of all, usually worship service consists of 3 opening hymns/worship songs but today there were 4, which I've never seen happen before. Then the celebration choir performed, but instead of their usual 2 songs, only 1 was sung because the conducting pastor was absent due to illness. Then we had baby dedications, which is rare to have during normal service time. And finally, our usual pastor was out sick and a junior pastor preached in his place. Pastor E is a great guy and all, but the minute I realized he was preaching, I felt bad. He doesn't have a gift for preaching and I immediately felt bad because I thought SY would never come back for another service after this experience. It's a big deal when people make the decision to go to church and I am happy they make the effort to do so, so I try my best to make it a positive experience for them, but Pastor E's sermons just aren't that great. Oh, well. SY did say he'd be interested in going a few more times, so I guess it wasn't that bad all around.

But, I must say, SY made me cringe. During service he pulled out a power bar and proceeded to chow down as if he was watching a movie or a show of some sort. I wanted to shrink into my seat and was kind of embarrassed when he did that. I didn't say anything 'cuz I didn't want to make it obvious to those around us. Oh, well.

And something else funny about him...he wore short socks with his jeans so when he sat down his legs showed. I dunno...something about that was kind of disturbing. He just lacked a bit of ... umm... dunno what the word is... not social graces, although that is part of it (re: power bar)... just a sort of understanding of style and appearance. Dunno... maybe I just grew up in a different generation or a more proper environment, but there are just some things about appearance that he didn't get.

Anyway, those are just some things I notice about people. Some of the quirks that make them who they are, I suppose.
